Well, this is a bit of a pinch-yourself moment. Coastal Custodian has been featured on the Local Heroes Podcast - and we couldn't be more thrilled (or more grateful) to have been invited to take part.
Episode 34, titled Coastlines, Cake and Commitment, is out now, and it's a conversation close to our heart. If you've followed Coastal Custodian for a while, you'll know that the spotlight here has always been kept firmly where it belongs - on the coastline, the wildlife, and the brilliant people who make Northumberland so wonderfully special. That ethos runs right through this episode.
What's the episode about?
We chat about how it all began - those early days of sharing sunsets, tides, and quiet moments on the beach - and how a simple love of this place has grown into a community of more than 95,000 people, reaching an incredible 3.5 million views every single month. There's plenty of joy and laughter along the way too (yes, the infamous sand dune incident gets a mention), along with Sunday lunches, gravy boats, and the very important subject of cake after a long coastal walk.
But it's not all laughs. The episode also touches on the things that really matter: raising funds for the RNLI, supporting local businesses when times get tough, training as a marine medic to help protect seals, and making sure our beaches and countryside stay accessible and enjoyed responsibly by everyone. And of course, none of it would be quite the same without the dog rangers, who have very much become part of the mission.
Why Local Heroes?
The Local Heroes Podcast is all about celebrating the people, places, and communities that make the North East so extraordinary - so it felt like a natural fit. At its heart, Coastal Custodian has always been about civic pride, kindness, and a genuine love of Northumberland. Getting to share that story with a wider audience is something we'll treasure.
Go and have a listen!
Whether you're a long-time follower or you've just found us, we'd love for you to give it a listen. Grab a brew, cut yourself a generous slice of something cake-shaped, and settle in.
And as always - thank you. Thank you for being part of this community, for caring about this coastline, and for shouting from the rooftops about the incredible people and places of Northumberland 🐾🌊
